We Need You (Yes, You)
We've got some open roles in our leadership team and on our committees, and maybe you're just the right person for one of them.
We know — we're the PTA, and it can feel like we're always asking for something. Here's the thing, though: this work is genuinely fun, and most people who jump in get back at least as much as they give — new friends, a better handle on what's happening at school, an excuse to do something other than laundry on a Tuesday night. We're also mindful that everyone's got a lot going on, so some of these roles ask for a little time most weeks, and others are more of a "show up when it matters" kind of thing. Whatever time you're able to bring, we'll take it and be genuinely glad you're here.
Open Leadership Roles
None of these roles come with a fixed job description. Every one of them can flex around your schedule, your strengths, and what you actually want to spend your time on. If something on this list catches your interest — even a little — email outreach@orlapta.org and let's grab a coffee (real or virtual) and talk through what it could look like for you.
We have a handful of committee chair spots open this year:
Garden Committee — help keep our gorgeous campus green spaces thriving.
Advocacy Committee — help make sure ORLA's programs get heard on policy that affects them.
Appreciation Committee — help our teachers and volunteers feel seen.
Grants & Sponsorships Committee — help secure grants and sponsorships that support our classrooms, clubs, and events. This one's highly flexible and mostly remote — no grant-writing background needed, just a knack for research or writing and a bit of time to give, whether that's a few hours a month or a specific project you want to dig into.
Program Representatives — be the voice for our program families and help them stay connected to school-wide events, resources, and PTA activities. We have open spots for ORLA Online and Freedom Farm, plus room for another parent on our hConnect team, who are currently wearing a few too many PTA hats.
Not Ready for a Leadership Role? Join a Committee.
Not everyone wants to run the show, and that's more than fine — committees are where a lot of the good stuff actually happens. And don't let the word "committee" fool you — it sounds stuffy, but we’re really just a group of people excited about a thing, working on it together. We're the party before the party.
Event committees are for anyone who loves an event but knows they'll be busy being a parent when it's actually happening. If you can't volunteer the night of Fall Fest or Winter Fair but you'd get a kick out of helping plan it, this is your spot. We have committees for Fall Fest (October), Winter Fair (December), Family Dance (March), and Science Fair (May).
Program committees are a small group of folks from your program working together with our reps to support it directly — think of it as your program's own little support crew inside the PTA.
If you're a PTA member and told us you were interested in one of these areas by checking the little box when you signed up, you'll probably hear from us. But don't wait for that — if you want in, send us a note at outreach@orlapta.org and we'll get you connected. Committee work doesn't require PTA membership, though we'd always love to have you (and as always, our membership dues flex to meet families where they are).
Our Clubs Need You Too
Club Leaders show up weekly and run our student clubs. Clubs are one of the best parts of ORLA life, and we only have a few running so far this year. We would love to have more club leaders join our team. If there's something you're excited about — a hobby, a skill, a weird niche interest — kids would probably love to explore it with you. Hosting a club is a once-a-week commitment, and typically runs one semester at a time. We take care of the support logistics and providing student snacks.
Club Helpers Can't commit to a weekly slot but still want to help? We could always use a few parents willing to sub in or lend extra hands when they're available.
Student Volunteers And if you're a high schooler looking for service hours, look no further — club volunteering is a great fit.
Interested in hosting, subbing, or general club volunteering? Reach out to clubs@orlapta.org.
We're not a mom’s social club or a formal group with all our chairs and committees — we're just a group of people who care about this school and like doing things together to make it stronger. We're also the one group that connects every ORLA program — Montessori, MSA, hConnect, ORLA Online, Freedom Farm, Diploma Track — into one community, and that only works because people show up for it. We’d love to have you come do it with us.
